Monterey Language Services began with a simple belief: that language should never be a barrier between people who need to understand each other.

Over time, that belief became a body of real work—interpreters stepping into hospitals, conferences, community events, and live situations where clarity truly matters. In those moments, language is not abstract; it is urgent, emotional, and deeply human.

A single sentence can carry relief, confusion, hope, or fear—and interpretation becomes the bridge that makes understanding possible.

But just as importantly, the company has always carried a second heartbeat: culture, celebration, and connection.

From holiday greetings and cultural festivals to team gatherings, music, and shared moments of joy, Monterey Language Services reflects the full range of human experience—not only the serious and high-stakes, but also the warm, expressive, and communal.

This same spirit flows through its growing archive of 90+ videos, capturing both critical real-world interpretation work and the lived culture around it.

What has been built is more than a language services company—it is a record of human connection in every form, and a foundation that blends professional expertise with genuine cultural life.

One of the highlights of our year is attending the MIIS Career Fair, and it’s so wonderful to return once more! Most of our colleagues at Monterey Language Services are alumni, so it’s always such a great pleasure to go back and speak with the bright and talented students of the best language school in the world–Middlebury Institute of International Studies. It’s a great tradition and privilege to be able to speak with the future minds of our industry.

Empowering Students with Resources

To ensure students had everything they needed, we made our booth informative and approachable. Posters with detailed descriptions of available positions made it easy for them to understand the roles we’re hiring for. Additionally, we put QR codes on the table to allow students to access job postings, sign-up links, and resume submission. This helped to streamline the entire application process and allow for more time to speak with students and create stronger connections with them.

Just like the previous years, the response was phenomenal! A long line of students visited our booth, and many eagerly signed up and submitted their resumes. Their engagement and excitement were absolutely overwhelming! It’s such a special moment for us to see the passion of these bright students and have the opportunity to be a part of their career.

Building Genuine Connections

The best part of the day was the meaningful conversations we had with the students. Many expressed their interest in beginning their professional journey in our company. It was a privilege to witness their passion and to know we played a small part in helping them take the next steps in their careers.

In general, the energy of the career fair is always so powerful and wonderful to experience. Seeing the students excitedly looking at the vast potential from where to jumpstart their career is not only heartwarming but nostalgic. It’s our absolute pleasure to share in their energy and enthusiasm and help the beginnings of their careers.

A Heartfelt Thank You

To the MIIS community: thank you for organizing another outstanding career fair. As alumni, it’s always an honor for us to return to the campus we come from and participate in such an impactful event.

To the students: thank you for your curiosity, energy, and willingness to connect. We can’t wait to see how your journeys unfold in the years to come.

As we reflect on this wonderful experience, we are already getting so excited for next year’s career fair. We can’t wait to continue making connections with this wonderful community next year as well!

In this blog post, we would like to introduce an amusing fact: as neutral as numbers look, there is in fact significant and enriching information embed in them. Take the number “100” for example:

Arabic: ١٠٠ (Does this look familiar?)
Bengali: ১০০
Chinese: 佰，百
Greek: ρʹ

These are just a few examples. The truth is, the number “100” is no longer a number. Many cultures see “100” as a completion, as Arabic numbers suggest. The numeral “0” is a full circle in shape, and from both symbolic and meaning perspectives, the word “one hundred” suggests a completion, a milestone, or an achievement. For instance, in French, one hundred is “cent,” which is the prefix for “century” and “centennial” in English.

Language is a living thing. The more people interact, the more flexible language becomes. With speedy communication and instant information, it is very easy to take language for granted. That is not what we do at Monterey Language Services! We are passionate about language and appreciate language. We express the passion and appreciation through our work and our blog. Wow, 100 blog posts that’s incredible!

Monterey Language Services strives to provide the highest quality of translation and interpretation services.
A Story by Matthew Stone

When you are a teenager, the world is a big place, especially when you go out to explore it.

I left home when I was 16, heading out to Germany, while knowing no German. Sometimes the hardest thing was simply staying awake, listening to words 24 hours a day when I had no idea. But I stayed because I wanted to be a professional soccer player.

I had spent so many years of my life trying to play in Europe and finally the opportunity had arrived. Nothing could tamper my motivation, not even the language barrier. The frozen fields and gummi platz (German playing surface) that engulfed me for countless hours only added to my passion with its new aura.

So writing to you years later as a college student, do I look back and say I did not achieve my dream? Or did my pursuit of one open up new doors? Because of my desire to play soccer, I now am fluent in German and have been awakened to the world. This has resulted in me traveling around the world as well as picking up an internship in Austria. It was not easy but you never find anything new if you trample the path that has already been worn.
